Info:This Product Design Centre resides along a contoured terrain next to a river in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Surrounding buildings all take advantage of the unrestricted river view and are no higher than 3-stories. Here, we have attempted to express the physical and aesthetic properties of aluminum as a building material upon the client’s (a local aluminum manufacturer) request. We were able to experiment with the building form using several layers of aluminum-related materials. The result is a timber grid shell structure with light weight glass reinforced plastic (GRP), aluminum sub frame with fritted silk-screened laminated tempered glass panels and a honey-combed secondary aluminum frame to create an architecture that represents the future of the company. The curved form of the building was purposefully designed to capture, reflect and accentuate the colours of the environment at different times of the day.
